Job Description

The Senior Business Analyst works within the project team (consisting of developers, functional experts, and other project specialists) and reports directly to the Senior PMO Operations Manager. The role works closely with senior leadership and staff in administrative and academic units.

Work Performed

  • Specific Duties:
    • Plan, organize, manage, monitor, and be responsible for the business analysis activities of projects.
    • Develop business requirements documents, solutions requirements documents, and functional requirements.
    • Create process maps, data maps, data model, data flow diagrams and work with and support data architects.
    • Prepare RFPs, including functional and non-functional requirements.
    • Provide guidance and leadership to testing teams, develop user test cases, and validate test results during acceptance testing.
    • Acquire and maintain a working knowledge of the organization's technical and business environment.
    • Advise and mentor project teams on various methodologies including waterfall and agile.
    • Lead, mentor, and coach other Business Analysts.
  • Core Duties:
    • Analyzes business needs utilizing a structured requirements process (gathering, analyzing, documenting, and managing changes).
    • Develops overall strategies and provides advice on options, risks and costs versus benefits.
    • Manages liaison relationship with clients to ensure technical solutions meet user needs.
    • Identifies, elicits, and documents business requirements, defines business rules and communicates requirements for the implementation of business solutions.
    • Reviews test plans and monitors the testing process.

Consequence of Error/Judgement

The Senior Business Analyst plays a significant role in the implementation of enterprise-wide systems and processes. Inability of systems and processes to support the organization's needs could seriously compromise daily business and activities. This position must assume responsibility for project decisions that could have significant financial impact on the organization and must be able to foresee potential problems and take corrective action.

Supervision Given

Plans, directs and supervises work of project team members, such as other business analysts, consultants, quality assurance analysts, and other staff assigned to the project.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications:
    • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
    • Minimum of eight years of related experience including at least two years of managerial experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Degree in an IT or Business Administration related discipline.
    • Project Management Professional, Change Management, or Business Analysis professional designation is an asset.
    • Experience with implementing major off-the-shelf (COTS) systems like Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Recruitment Systems, Salesforce, Workday, or Student Information Systems.
    • Project experience in a higher-education environment, policy and regulatory compliance situations is an asset.
    • Experience demonstrates progressive responsibility, preferably in a higher education or other public sector environment.
