BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

The IB Programme Chair is an instructional leader who drives excellence by aligning the IB Mission and Vision with LHS SIP goals, district objectives, and International Baccalaureate  standards

 

The IB Program Lead acts as a strategic liaison between stakeholders, including but not limited to: students, parents, staff, administration, district curriculum, and the IB, focusing on student recruitment and success through supporting staff.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & SKILLS

  • IB Compliance: Expert knowledge of IB regulations to ensure all internal and external assessments, testing timelines, and curriculum forms meet global audit requirements.
  • Instructional Coaching: Ability to model research-based pedagogy and provide non-appraising feedback to peers to improve student outcomes.
  • Diplomacy & Communication: Ability to interpret complex technical journals and IB legal documents. Must be able to "market" the program to the community and navigate school-wide scheduling needs.
  • Systems Reasoning: Ability to synthesize grade data and DP Exam Data to identify trends and drive long-range program improvement.
  • Professionalism: Regular, dependable attendance and the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. IB Program Operations

  • IB Liaison: Serve as the official contact person for all communications between the school and the IB including regular 5 year evaluation and Self-Study.
  • Regulatory Oversight: Ensure total compliance with IB procedures, including the coordination of testing, submission of forms, and adherence to strict IB timelines.
  • Master Schedule Advocacy: Work with counselors and administration to assist in the placement of IB and Pre-IB classes within the building schedule to ensure student access and program viability.
  • Resource Management: Manage department budget and prioritize IB training funds to ensure staff meet IB professional development requirements and students and staff have necessary curriculum materials.

2. Instructional & Curriculum Leadership

  • Vertical & Horizontal Alignment: Plan and facilitate collaboration between IB and Pre-IB teachers to ensure a seamless 9–12 instructional pathway.
  • Data-Driven Improvement: Analyze classroom data and DP Exam results to recommend course modifications and improve the overall program.
  • Student Placement: Partner with the IB Counselor to create a high-challenge, high-support environment by aligning academic requirements with social-emotional well-being.

3. Adaptive & Collaborative Leadership

  • Peer Support: Facilitate opportunities for peer observation and feedback for non-appraising purposes, serving as a mentor rather than a supervisor.
  • Community Building: Lead the program in identifying and addressing the academic and social needs of IB students, referring them to the appropriate administrative or counseling staff when necessary.
  • Recruitment & Marketing: Develop promotional materials and lead parent engagement opportunities to grow the IB program and share its vision with the community.

 

COMPENSATION & CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATIONS

Contractual Status: This position is held on a Standard Teacher Contract. The incumbent is required to fulfill all duties associated with the base contract, including but not limited to, attendance at parent-teacher conferences, building staff meetings, and professional development days without additional compensation beyond the base salary.

 

Leadership Stipend: The IB Programme Chair will receive a Teacher Leader Stipend of $5,665. This stipend compensates the individual for leadership responsibilities and includes five (5) additional work days beyond the standard contract.

 

Extended Duty Days: In addition to the stipend days, this position requires ten (10) supplemental work days to be compensated at the employee’s calculated per diem rate.

 

Total Time Commitment:

 

  • Total Additional Days: 15 Days (5 Stipend Days + 10 Per Diem Days).

Expectation: The fulfillment of these fifteen (15) additional days is a core requirement of the position to ensure program compliance, building scheduling, and IB reporting requirements are met.

 

This position is subject to a veterans preference.
