Job Summary

Data Analyst, Health Information Management (HIM)

The Data Analyst, Health Information Management (HIM) will transform complex clinical, operational, and regulatory data into clear insights that help leaders, providers, and quality teams make informed decisions.
In this role, you will work with data from electronic health records, patient registries, administrative systems, and reporting platforms to identify trends, validate performance measures, support compliance requirements, and uncover opportunities to improve documentation, quality outcomes, and patient care delivery.

Qualifications

Key Responsibilities

  • Gather, compile, validate, and analyze health information data from electronic health records, patient registries, administrative databases, and other internal sources.
  • Ensure data accuracy, completeness, integrity, and consistency by identifying discrepancies, resolving errors, and supporting quality assurance processes.
  • Apply data preparation, modeling, analysis, and visualization techniques to evaluate business, operational, clinical, quality, and population health performance.
  • Use statistical analysis tools and reporting software to assess patient outcomes, clinical trends, documentation patterns, and operational performance.
  • Develop recurring and ad-hoc reports, dashboards, and visualizations that monitor key performance indicators and support organizational goals.
  • Translate data findings into clear, actionable insights for leaders, physicians, department heads, quality improvement teams, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with quality improvement and operational teams to identify opportunities to enhance patient care outcomes, improve workflows, and strengthen hospital processes.
  • Analyze clinical documentation and diagnosis coding to support improved diagnosis capture, risk adjustment, quality measure performance, and population health initiatives.
  • Support Uniform Data System (UDS), payer, quality measure, and regulatory reporting through data analysis, validation, and performance monitoring.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable reporting requirements, HIPAA standards, data privacy expectations, and organizational policies for protecting patient information.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, health care analytics, public health, informatics, business analytics, or a related field required.
  • Two to three years of experience in health information management, health care data analysis, clinical analytics, quality reporting, or a related analytical role preferred.
  • Experience working with electronic health record data, clinical documentation, coding, quality measures, or regulatory reporting strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of health care data standards, coding systems, data classification principles, and clinical documentation workflows.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record systems, health care data exchange standards, and data privacy regulations.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets and identify meaningful trends.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate technical findings to clinical, operational, and administrative audiences.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy, confidentiality, and quality assurance.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and collaborate effectively across teams.
