DNA Swine Genetics, a leading genetic supplier for the swine industry, is seeking an analytical Geneticist to join our team in Columbus, Nebraska. This is an entry-level professional role designed for a recent Ph.D. graduate specializing in animal breeding and statistics. This position is based onsite and located in Columbus, NE. We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled individual to help drive innovation in our commercial swine breeding programs. Within this role, you will be part of a team that is responsible for genetic progress in company product lines focused on sustainable & profitable pork production.

As a Geneticists for DNA Swine Genetics, you will be part of a team responsible for developing novel phenotypes, delivering trait-specific breeding values and developing new traits that align with breeding objectives. You will collaborate with internal teams as well as academic partners to explore new technologies and move research concepts and discoveries to practical applications that produce measurable results for pork producers.

The successful candidate will be a scientifically curious, forward-thinking individual able to work within a team & have strong communication skills. The candidate will work within an existing genetic research team, with swine production specialists and academic or private industry partners that focus on animal breeding research.

The preferred applicant has:

  • D. in Animal Breeding or Statistics with an emphasis on statistical analysis.
  • Experience with genetic evaluation software, such as BLUPF90 and genomic data analysis.
  • Experience and ability to broaden the knowledge of SQL and R programming languages, ability to learn new programming languages as may be required to perform the duties of the position.
  • Experience with analyzing large genomic data and knowledge of working with gene expression or other 'omics' data.
  • Excellent knowledge of experimental design, statistical techniques for analysis of data (both binomial and continuous phenotypes).
  • Ability to analyze data sets and communicate results effectively to an applied audience with little scientific background.
  • Self-starter who can understand the goals of a project and develop a plan of implementation, create and meet deadlines and be accountable for results.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • A team-oriented mentality who can work effectively with all members of the team to accomplish a common goal, providing leadership when needed and support to the team when appropriate.
